SAUGERTIES – Two downstate men have been arrested by Saugerties Police for possessing a pumping system and numerous containers filled with used cooking oil.

Police pulled over a Chevy Express Van on Route 9W/Spaulding Lane for several traffic-related equipment violations.

While interviewing the driver, Francis Salas, 29, of Yonkers, the officer detected a strong odor of oil coming from the vehicle and the passenger, Miguel Guante-Feliz, 30, of New York City, wearing latex gloves.

An inspection of the van led to the discovery of the stolen oil.

Over the last year throughout Ulster County there have been several reports of used cooking oil stolen from restaurants and fast-food establishments.

Both men were charged with criminal possession of stolen property. Salas was also charged with several traffic infractions.
