CLERMONT – A shooting incident in Clermont on Friday morning forced the Germantown and Red Hook school districts to take security measures because the suspect, who has been apprehended, was the subject of a manhunt.

Early reports indicate that a person sustained serious injuries Friday morning as the result of a gunshot fired by another person.  The suspect allegedly fled the Woods Road scene, resulting in a manhunt by several police agencies.

The subject was apprehended after police initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle for violating vehicle and traffic laws.  The operator was allegedly attempting to return to the City of Hudson.  During the traffic stop, he was identified as the wanted suspect and was taken into custody.

As a result of the manhunt, the Germantown and Red Hook schools initiated a “lockout”.  The lockout protocol is a procedure where the school day proceeds as usual but no person is allowed to enter or exit the building due to a type of dangerous activity taking place in the surrounding community.

Both school districts issued statements indicating that there was no direct threat to the schools and the lockout was taken as a precaution.

When the suspect was apprehended, both school districts lifted the lockout.  The Red Hook Central School District issued an update on its website, saying “Based on information received from law enforcement, the suspect has been apprehended and detained. The lockout at all buildings has been released, and there will be continued police presence throughout the day.”
