Shots fired in busy city park on Monday; police investigating

Police in the vicinity of King Street Park, collecting evidence.

POUGHKEEPSIE – Police are investigating an incident that involved multiple shots being fired in a busy Poughkeepsie  city park on Sunday.  Officers were searching for two subjects.

City of Poughkeepsie police responded to the area of King Street and Innis Avenue around 6:30 p.m. for a report of shots fired.  Sources have told Mid-Hudson News that two black males were observed running from the area moments after the shots were fired.

Radio traffic indicated that arriving officers observed the potential subjects and attempted to stop them.  The two men refused to comply and a foot pursuit ensued.  Additional units from the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area to assist.

Multiple 9mm shell casings were located on King Street and the sidewalk between the street and the basketball court where several people were playing basketball.

One source has told Mid-Hudson News that a 15-year-old male was taken into custody in the vicinity of Boulevard Knolls around 7:15 p.m.

No victims suffering from gunshot wounds were located at the scene and officers were interviewing neighbors near the park.

Detectives and crime scene technicians were said to be responding to the scene at approximately 7:30 p.m.
