Man caught with stolen firearms released on appearance tickets

LIBERTY – Police have arrested a Liberty man after an investigation into stolen firearms.  A shotgun and an assault-style rifle were recovered at the time of the arrest.

Stolen weapons and ammunition recovered.

Fifty-three-year-old James Kennedy has been charged with the felonies of grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, and criminal possession of a forged instrument for stealing the weapons from a residence.

Village police responded to a residence on May 2nd after receiving the complaint of stolen weapons from the dwelling.  The police conducted an investigation and arrested Kennedy on May 4th, according to Liberty Police Chief Steve D’Agata.

The investigation also revealed that Kennedy had presented a forged transfer record of the firearms in an attempt to conceal the theft. 

Kennedy was arraigned and set free with appearance tickets for a future court date.
