LIBERTY – A 24-year-old Liberty resident is in the Sullivan County Jail after assaulting a 36-year-old man with a wooden object.  The May 5th incident occurred in the area of Buckley Street, according to Police Chief Steven D’Agata.

John Dotten was charged with the felonies of assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and tampering with evidence after the police investigated a report of a fight with weapons on Thursday.

When police arrived at the call, they found a 36-year-old male victim with a laceration to his head. The victim was transported to Garnett Health Medical Center Catskills where he was treated for his injuries.  Police say that Dotten struck the victim in the head with a wooden weapon.

Dotten was located and arrested a short time later without incident. Prior to being arrested Dotten attempted to hide the wooden object from police.

The assailant was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail, $7,500 secured bond, or $12,000 partially secured bond.

Dotten is due back in the Town of Liberty Court on May 10th, 2022.
