Haverstraw man indicted for making AR-15 ghost guns

NEW CITY – A 45-year-old Haverstraw man has been indicted under a new state law designed specifically to combat the sale of ghost guns, firearms that have no serial numbers and are often homemade.

This is the first use of the law in the state.

Gregory Lopez was indicted on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon for possessing two loaded firearms; two counts of criminal possession for possessing two firearms while having a prior criminal record; two counts of possessing two assault weapons; and six counts of criminal possession of a weapon for possessing major components of ghost guns while being prohibited from owning them due to prior criminal conduct.

Assisting in the investigation were Homeland Security Investigation, the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Narcotics Task Force, Clarkstown and Haverstraw3 Police, Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.
