Woman killed by Amtrak train was trying to catch her dog

RHINEBECK – The woman struck and killed by a Chicago to New York City Amtrak train Sunday afternoon was attempting to catch her dog as it ran across the tracks near the Rhinebeck-Kingston Station, State Police said Monday.

Carrie Gemmell, 36, of Kingston, lost her life in the incident. Her seven-year-old daughter was with her and witnessed the tragedy.

State Police credit Dutchess County for responding with its mobile crisis team to assist the family and provide resources to aid in the investigation.
