MAMAKATING – A motorist’s attempt to cross a flooded approach to Sullivan County’s Basha Kill Wildlife Management Area prompted a rescue call late Saturday afternoon.

The woman was rescued after driving her car onto a submerged portion of Haven Road, off Route 209 in the Town of Mamakating.  Haven road crosses the Basha Kill and connects a bridge access through the wetland conservation area and wildlife refuge.

Several state troopers, an EMS response unit, and a town board member were on scene as a driver, the only occupant, was helped to safety.  Responders remained on scene awaiting the delivery of barriers to close the road, and as a tow truck crew retrieved the woman’s vehicle.

While no one was injured, officials cautioned awareness of temporarily flooded areas following recent heavy rainfall.
