KINGSTON – A proposal to spend $1.5 million of Ulster County’s ARPA funds to demolish the former county jail at Golden Hill has won the support of the county legislature’s Public Works, Capital Projects & Transportation Committee.

Razing the building would make way for Penrose Development to construct affordable housing at that site in the City of Kingston.

That parcel has already been determined to have no environmental hazards.

County officials would like to demolish the building this summer.
