NEWBURGH – City police have charged a Newburgh man after an investigation determined he stole property from a car at the Newburgh waterfront. The police responded to the Water Street area after receiving a tip from a good Samaritan on March 18 at 6:35 p.m.
Ricardo Torres, 46, has been charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property after a brief investigation.
According to police officials, a good Samaritan observed a male looking in parked vehicles in the area of Water Street near some local eateries along the waterfront and called the police.
Responding officers located a male matching the description provided and found him to be in possession of a credit card belonging to someone else. Officers and dispatchers located the owner of the credit card who said it was last seen in his vehicle that was parked in a lot on Front Street. Torres was also in possession of additional property belonging to the victim.
Torres was processed at police headquarters and held for arraignment.
