KINGSTON – A 49-year-old Saugerties man was sentenced in Ulster County Court on Friday to three consecutive terms of 1 1/3 to four years in state prison.

Jason Hinchey was convicted of three counts of felony aggravated family offense and one count of bail jumping following a jury verdict on January 6.

The case stemmed from an assault that occurred on March 28, 2019 in Saugerties.

Hinchey was found guilty of violently assaulting a former girlfriend causing a concussion and fracture.

He later failed to appear in court to face the charges.

At trial, he testified that he acted in self-defense.

Sullivan County Court Judge James Farrell, who presided over the case, noted the victim’s injuries were inflicted in several separate acts of violence and that he refused to accept responsibility for his conduct.

Ulster County District Attorney David Clegg said anyone who is experiencing domestic violence or intimate partner violence is urged to call the Ulster County Crime Victims Assistance Program at 845-340-3443, or 911 if in immediate danger.
