POUGHKEEPSIE – A Thursday morning threat of gun violence at Poughkeepsie Middle School has been traced back to a 12-year-old student of the school.  The child is now facing a felony charge of making a terroristic threat.

On Thursday morning, February 24, school officials, including the Poughkeepsie Police Department School Resource Officer, were made aware of a message on SnapChat in which the account-holder posted a threat to bring a gun to school.  The school staff, along with the SRO, quickly identified the student responsible for the threat.

The student was brought to the Poughkeepsie Police Juvenile Division with his mother present. The student was issued a Family Court appearance ticket to answer the felony charges.  His mother is tasked with making sure the child appears in court.

Detective Lieutenant Matt Clark said, “The City of Poughkeepsie Police take, every school threat seriously and whenever possible will file charges against those responsible in the age-appropriate court.”

Anyone with information on this school threat or any other school threat can call the City of Poughkeepsie Police confidential TIPS LINE at 845-451-7577.
