TOWN OF WAPPINGER – A Sunday morning fire at a multi-family home on MacFarlane Road in Wappinger displaced two families and required several fire departments to extinguish the flames.

At 10 a.m. on February 20, the Hughsonville Fire Department responded to 6 MacFarlane Road for a report of smoke coming from a closet in one of the building’s two apartments.

Firefighters were on the scene within five minutes and found an active fire in the dwelling.  Firefighters were able to contain the flames in the apartment where it began, according to Fire District Captain William Beale.

He said the fire was brought under control within 40 minutes.  A total of 11 occupants were displaced as a result of the blaze.  Hughsonville First Assistant Chief Paul Rogers, Jr. thanked his members and those who assisted his department on the scene, calling the work an “outstanding job, a perfect example of
training and teamwork put together.”

The Hughsonville Fire Department was assisted by New Hackensack, Village of Fishkill, Rombout, New Hamburg, Chelsea, East Fishkill, and Glenham fire departments, as well as the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response and Town of Wappinger  EMS.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division.
