FISHKILL – Two veteran Fishkill cops were promoted to the rank of lieutenant by the town board on Wednesday night.  Thirty-seven-year veteran officer Sergeant Craig Wood and Sergeant Patrick Cadden, a 29-year veteran officer, were promoted on the recommendation of Fishkill Police Chief Keith Dworkin.

Sergeant Wood has 25 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role including his time as a sergeant with NYPD and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.

Sergeant Wood supervises the Community Policing Unit for the Town of Fishkill Police Department. He is a certified police instructor who offers lectures in civilian response to active shooter situations for local businesses and senior safety for elderly residents in the community.

Cadden began his career in law enforcement with the Town of Newburgh Police Department in 1993 where he remained until his retirement in 2018. During his career, he was assigned to the Patrol Division and due to his tactical proficiency, was later selected for the department’s tactical team. In addition to these duties, he received an assignment as the department’s Community Policing Officer and was invited to teach at the Orange County Police Academy. In 2006 he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and assumed supervision of an eight-man patrol squad with oversight of the department’s Junior and Citizen Police Academy.

In 2018 Pat started with the Town of Fishkill Police. His training and experience were quickly recognized and in 2019 he was assigned to the Detective Division. Later that year New York State passed sweeping criminal justice reform legislation and enactment of new Discovery laws. Because of his experience, he was tasked with meeting all discovery deadlines and has been praised by the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office for his diligence.

Chief Dworkin expressed his satisfaction with the board’s approval. “These appointments were long overdue and will serve to provide direction and supervision at the Command Staff level. Having the Command Staff up to full complement will allow us to proceed with the vision we have for the Town of Fishkill Police Department and the service we provide to residents of the Town of Fishkill.”

“We are glad to fill the police positions within the department and even happier for it to be done by unanimous vote. We know the police department has been a hot topic but we’re glad to unite behind these two promotions of Lieutenants Cadden and Wood, and we wish them the best of luck in their service,” said Town Councilman Carmine Istvan.
