Newburgh City PD chase man with gun

NEWBURGH – A late afternoon foot pursuit by police in the City of Newburgh is believed to have ended with the apprehension of a man on Friday.

The chase occurred in the area of Liberty and Benkard streets after 4 p.m. The man was followed into a residence and an unconfirmed report indicated he was caught and a gun was recovered.

Newburgh Town and State Police were called in to assist and provide parameter security.

Shortly after 3 Saturday morning in the same location, police city police were called in to control approximately 30 people fighting in the street. A short time, that crowd was reported to involve as many as 60 teens.

It was unknown if this incident was related to the one on Friday afternoon.
