POUGHKEEPSIE – One of the suspects arrested Thursday night on a felony weapons charge and felony possession of stolen property was out on bond for an August 2021 felony weapons charge.  He was also arrested in July of 2021 for aggravated unlawful operation of a motor vehicle in Saratoga Springs.

Following his July arrest, 21-year-old Semaj Godfrey, a City of Poughkeepsie resident, was arrested on Rose Street in August.  City police were investigating a report of a man threatening a woman with a gun.  During the investigation, Godfrey was identified as the suspect.  Police determined that Godfrey had hidden a bag containing a loaded pistol and several rounds of ammunition in a parked car before police arrived.  He was arrested and charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon.

The vehicle was impounded and the weapon was recovered from the vehicle.  He was arraigned on the charge and given the chance to post bail or bond.  His bond was posted, allowing him to return to the community.

On Thursday night, Godfrey was one of six people arrested in Poughkeepsie for possessing a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Stamford, Connecticut.  Two loaded handguns, drug paraphernalia, and cash were also recovered.  (The full Mid-Hudson News story can be found HERE.)

City of Poughkeepsie Police Captain Rich Wilson said, “Our officers continue to meet the challenges of arresting violent criminals who are repeatedly arrested and released back into the community to continue their criminal behavior.”
