POUGHKEEPSIE – Developers of the Pelton Manor project in the City of Poughkeepsie’s Mount Carmel district have modified their plans to reimagine the once-stately structure into an arts center.

Original plans by developers Steven Tinkelman and Wayne Nussbickel were to create apartments in the 1859 Italianate-style mansion.

The new plans are expected to be more in line with the neighborhood, said Nussbickel.

“One of the concerns in the past was it was separate from the neighborhood but this is going to completely enhance the connectivity with the neighborhood, will be a big public draw and enhance Poughkeepsie’s reputation as an arts destination,” he said.

Tinkelman said the total project will bring the number of apartments down from 46 to 36 as well as some commercial space.

The overall project will include a pedestrian walkway, public spaces, a dog park and sculpture. Parking on Donegan Place would be available for the public and the adjacent basketball court would be refurbished.

Pelton Partners LLC will appear before the Historic District and Landmark Preservation Commission via Zoom on Thursday, February 10. The city planning board had previously reviewed and supported the original project.
