MOUNT VERNON – A 16-year-old was arrested with a loaded handgun on Wednesday, February 2, by Mount Vernon detectives assigned to the Violent Crimes Unit. The teen was wanted by police in connection with a previous home invasion.
According to police officials, the detectives were patrolling the 200 block of South Third Avenue when they observed the teen suspect being sought in connection with a previous home invasion. When they approached the suspect, he attempted to conceal an object in his waistband. Upon further investigation, the Detectives recovered a loaded, 9mm semi-automatic pistol.
The teenage suspect was taken into custody and arraigned on charges of Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Burglary charges stemming from another case. He was processed and remanded to a secure juvenile detention center, pending a further court appearance.
