Police preparing charges against standoff suspect

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Town Police in Poughkeepsie say that Wednesday’s standoff with an armed man began at approximately 4:13 a.m. when 911 received several reports of shots fired at a house and vehicle on Channingville Road.  The response turned into a standoff between the subject and police that lasted until approximately 8:30 a.m.

 

The suspect, 49-year-old Alfred Califano, was first identified by Mid-Hudson News earlier in the day.  A reporter from Mid-Hudson News was live at the scene until Califano surrendered.  The original breaking story with updates can be read HERE.

Town of Poughkeepsie Police Lieutenant Shannon Rodriguez said that Califano allegedly fired shots at a residence occupied by two people and also fired shots at a vehicle occupied by another individual.  Califano was inside his residence at 51 Channingville Road when police arrived and refused to exit, resulting in the standoff.

 

The police are preparing charges against Califano.
