ALBANY – National Law Enforcement Appreciation day this year is staking place on Sunday, January 9 and to mark the day, State Senator Pete Harckham has secured a $100,000 grant for law enforcement and public safety initiatives in the Town of Carmel.

A total of $46,700 will go toward the purchase and installation of six rectangular rapid flash beacons on Route 6 to alert drivers of pedestrians crossing the roadway. Existing signage will be improved with LED lighting added to some.

A public safety drone and training for its use will be funded with $33,800.

The remaining $19,500 is earmarked for a license plate reader for the police department.

“The resources that are being provided will help us to deliver better public safety services to our residents,” said Town Supervisor Michael Cazzari.
