FISHKILL – A fast-moving ice storm on Wednesday morning caused poor driving conditions and caused multiple accidents, according to Fishkill Police Lieutenant Paul Schettino.

Schettino said that his department covered for the East Fishkill Police at a bus accident on Route 52 near Fishkill Hook Road just before 8 a.m. Wednesday.  “East Fishkill Police were inundated with numerous accidents in their jurisdiction and we were able to respond to the bus accident for them.”

A Wappinger Central School District bus occupied by only the uninjured driver slid off of the roadway and tipped over during the storm that caught many motorists by surprise during the morning commute.  The accident caused Town of Fishkill Police to shut down Route 52 between Merritt Road and Fishkill Hook Road for approximately 90 minutes, Schettino said.  NTC Auto Body from Fishkill and Hatfield Brothers Truck Service worked to upright the bus and remove it from the ditch before towing it away from the scene.

The Westchester County Police Department responded to a multi-car accident on the Hutchinson River Parkway in the morning in the vicinity of Boston Post Road in Pelham. Police say there were no serious injuries.
