Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus talks with Garnet nurses

GOSHEN – Orange County’s Valley View nursing home is facing the same shortage of nurses as other healthcare facilities in the Hudson Valley, so the county is going to offer $3,500 sign-on incentives to new hires.

Legislator Jimmy O’Donnell sponsored the move saying the county had to sweeten the pot to attract more professional staff.

“Unfortunately we are short so many nurses and putting mandatory overtime, we are stretching our workers pretty thin, so we have to do something just to keep up with other nursing homes and hospitals, paying incentives for new hires, so that’s what we did,” he said.

The county is also offering $500 referral fees to anyone who recommends someone to a nursing position and they accept it.
