Helping those in need for the holidays

MID-HUDSON – As the region readies for the holidays this week, there is plenty of giving for those who may not have much.

Christine Hein, executive director of the People’s Place in Kingston, said meals are available for families to take home prior to Christmas. Hein said there has been a big demand for toys this year beyond that of year’s past.

 Christmas, though, is not always about togetherness and giving. There is also loneliness, but Angela Henze, executive director of the Mental Health Association of Orange County, said help is available for those struggling with mental health or other issues.

“As you can only imagine, the holidays can be a difficult time for a lot of people,” she said. “This year, more than ever, since not everyone can be together with their loved ones due to increase in COVID-19 cases.  Orange County is fortunate to have the Orange County Crisis Call Center

The Crisis Call Center connects people in need of support for mental illness, substance use, developmental disability, sexual assault, or who need information/referrals with trained professionals, 24/7.
