KINGSTON – The Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency has been named Small-Scale Compost Manufacturer of the year by the U.S. Composting Council.

The director of sustainability for the Ulster agency, Angie Brandt, said the award demonstrates their effort to protect the environment for future generations.

“Their award is a very big honor here for us and the Small Scale Compost Manufacturer of the Year Award is given to a composting facility in the U.S. that produces less than 10,000 tons per year and it can be a public sector or a private sector company that has displayed significant excellence in both producing compost and marketing and distributing out to their community,” she said.

At present, the UCRRA sells compost in bulk, but going forward, hopes to also offer it in smaller amounts.
