MONTICELLO – Sullivan County District Attorney Meagan Galligan announced the indictment of a 40-year-old Westbrookville man , for allegedly attempting to kill two state troopers who responded to a domestic incident they responded to in September involving Patrick Hermanowski.

In addition to shooting at the police in Wurtsboro, Hermanowski attempted to steal a neighbor’s ATV.  He was also in possession of more than two ounces of methamphetamine when he was arrested.

Hermanowski was shot in the neck during the shootout.  He was arrested and charged with numerous crimes on September 14.  The account can be read HERE.

Both troopers suffered minor injuries as a result of the exchange of gunfire, though neither was struck by a bullet, according to Galligan.

After being arraigned on the indictment, Sullivan County Court Judge Jim Farrell set bail for Hermanowski at $5 million cash, $10 million secured bond, and $20 million partially secured bond, together with other non-monetary conditions of any release.

“While the facts of this case will be brought forward in a court of law, this indictment is a stark reminder of the dangers our law enforcement officers face every day,” said Galligan. I thank the New York State Police, the Town of Deerpark Police, and our partners in law enforcement for the work they do every day, and their work on this investigation.”
