Police recover stolen gun and drugs; arrest two men

POUGHKEEPSIE – Antawon Johnson, a 31-year-old parolee, and Saul Joel Lugo-Alecia, 19, both of Poughkeepsie, were arrested on Wednesday night during an investigation into several incidents of shot fired and shootings in the vicinity of Main and North White Streets in the city.

 

Police are focusing on the area where recently, a man was shot in an ambush at the intersection, and on Monday, a child was injured when a stray bullet entered their North White Street house.

 

A joint detail of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Neighborhood Recovery Unit and the State Police interviewed several people at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday night at the high-crime intersection, eventually detaining Johnson, Lugo-Alecia, and a juvenile male. During the investigation, a loaded Taurus .410ga/.45 cal. revolver reported stolen from Georgia, and a large amount of narcotics were recovered.

 

As a result of the investigation, Johnson, Joel Lugo-Alecia, and the juvenile male were taken into custody. Johnson, on parole for a previous criminal possession of a weapon conviction, was charged with the felonies of criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, and criminal possession of stolen property, as well as the misdemeanor of obstructing governmental administration. Lugo-Alecia was charged with the felonies of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and criminal possession of stolen property. 

 

The juvenile subject was not charged and released to a parent. Johnson and Luis-Alecia were held pending processing and arraignment.
