POUGHKEEPSIE – A man was shot as he was leaving the convenience store at 551 Main Street in the City of Poughkeepsie at about 6:30 Tuesday evening.

The incident was captured on both store and city surveillance cameras in the area, according to police radio transmissions.

A male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital for further treatment.

Police responded to a call reporting the shooting at the store at the intersection of Main and North White Streets.

Upon arrival, they located a victim with at least one gunshot wound to the abdomen. Police secured the scene before Poughkeepsie firefighters and Mobile Life EMS personnel were allowed to enter the scene and treat the victim for transport.

Police officers, including City of Poughkeepsie Police K9 Ace, canvassed the scene looking for evidence.  At least one shell casing was recovered.

Officers reviewing the footage of the shooting indicated that the suspect waited for the victim to exit the store at 551 Main Street.  When the victim came out, it is believed that the shooter fired at least five rounds in the direction of the victim, before fleeing on foot.

K9 Ace was observed searching the crime scene, including a section of Main Street, looking for the additional shell casings.
