Eighty firefighters battle Walden blaze

WALDEN – Fire in a large former manufacturing building that had been converted into a storage facility brought out 80 firefighters to 46 Grant Street in the Village of Walden Monday night as flames shot the roof.

An investigation led by the Orange County Division of Fire Services investigators determined the blaze had started in an area of the roof where workers were previously performing hot work roof repairs.

The two-alarm fire was in the cockloft of one of the many additions to the original 1800’s building.

There were no reports of injuries.

Assisting Walden firefighters were personnel and equipment from the City of Newburgh, Maybrook, Pine Bush, Wallkill and Washingtonville fire departments.

The fire was reported at 9:22 p.m. and declared under control at 10:04 p.m.

Also assisting at the scene were Walden Police and building department, Town of Montgomery EMS, and NYSEG. The Orange Lake and Washingtonville fire departments provided coverage for the departments operating on the scene.
