POUGHKEEPSIE – A 49-year-old Wappinger resident was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Friday after being charged with five counts of attempted murder stemming from a seven-hour standoff with police in September of 2019.

The case against Christopher DeMilio was argued before Dutchess County Acting Supreme Court Judge Michael Hayes.

State and local police had responded to reports of a domestic incident at the 22 Marlorville Road home.  When troopers arrived, they found the caller, DeMilio’s wife, in the front yard.  DeMilio was in the house on the second floor and began shooting at the officers.  Trooper Aaron Tiso sustained a grazing wound to his arm.

The standoff lasted several hours, during which DeMilio would occasionally fire his weapon at police.  After lengthy negotiations, he surrendered at approximately 2:30 a.m.

In addition to the five counts of attempted murder, he was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon, assault, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, and endangering the welfare of a child.
