New Windsor police officer wears bodycam

ROSENDALE – Beginning on next Monday, Rosendale Police officers will be wearing body cameras while on patrol.

“In launching the body worm camera program, our goal is to create a level of transparency that provides an accurate documentation of the interaction our officers have within our community,” said Police Chief Scott Schaffrick. “In addition to capturing arrests and other critical incidents, it provides us with an opportunity to capture the positive, good work that our officers do each day. The body worn camera will also allow supervisors to conduct periodic reviews of interactions, for quality control purposes and the investigation of any complaints that may arise in their duties.”

The launch of the program was funding from the Bureau of Justice Assistance. The police department has also applied for additional grant funding to expand the program and provide more cameras and video storage.
