ALBANY – In response to major flooding due to Tropical Depression Ida, Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency in several area counties including Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester.

In the Hudson Valley/Catskills, roads and basements were flooded, trees fell, blocking roads and disrupting power. Metro-North service was suspended overnight due to flooding, downed trees, and power outages.

Overnight the Yogi Bear Campground on Bevier Road in Gardiner was evacuated because of rising waters of the Wallkill River. All campers were moved to the Gardiner firehouse.

“Torrential rainfall has resulted in flash flooding, power outages, travel disruptions, and damage in impacted areas posing a threat to public health and safety,” she said. “I am directing state agencies, including the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, the Department of Transportation, Thruway Authority, and others to take appropriate and immediate action to help respond and recover from this disaster.”
