Poughkeepsie PD investigates latest shooting Tuesday evening

POUGHKEEPSIE – A 17-year-old boy was shot at 51 Lent Street in the City of Poughkeepsie Tuesday night, the latest victim of gun violence in the Queen City.  The victim’s wounds have been described as non-life-threatening.

Police received reports of shots fired at the intersection of Lent and Bement Streets shortly before 7 p.m.

The victim, a resident of 51 Lent Street was located and Poughkeepsie firefighters and Mobile Life medics treated the youth for a gunshot wound to the wrist before being transported by ambulance to a local hospital, accompanied by his mother.

Detectives and crime scene technicians located several shell casings on the pavement of Bement Street.

Witnesses told police that they saw a white or light-colored Honda sedan speeding away from the location, traveling north.

Councilwoman Yvonne Flowers who resides in the neighborhood met with police officials at the scene.  After being briefed, Flowers told Mid-Hudson News “This is getting ridiculous.  The teenagers are involved in unnecessary violence and we need to get the community involved to end it.  It’s truly senseless.”
