ALBANY – Governor Andrew Cuomo’s top aide, Melissa DeRosa, resigned from her position on Sunday, August 8.  DeRosa is considered by many to be Cuomo’s most trusted confidant.

DeRosa’s resignation is the latest sign of turmoil in the governor’s office.  An investigation by NYS Attorney General Letitia James, issued last week, says Cuomo violated federal and state laws regarding the sexual harassment of 11 female accusers.

DeRosa has been with the Cuomo administration since 2013.  She is also the Chairperson of the NYS Council on Women and Girls, established by Cuomo in 2017.  When she was named as head of the council, DeRosa said “Governor Cuomo has long prioritized the rights of women, from passing the most comprehensive Paid Family Leave plan in the country to staunchly defending women’s reproductive rights.”

In a statement released Sunday night, DeRosa called her time in the Cuomo administration “The greatest honor in my life.”
