MOUNT VERNON – An evening of gunfire in late May has resulted in arrests by Mount Vernon Police Department, NYPD, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.  The events began when a Mount Vernon man was shot inside of a business on West 3rd Street around 5 p.m. on May 31.

Gladstone Dankin, 33, of Eastchester was arrested in the Bronx by Mount Vernon PD and ATF officers on July 20, for his role in the shootout.

Police say that the victim that sustained the gunshot wounds fled the store on foot and sought help from people in the area. At some point, he encountered Dankin.  The original shooter, Santano Williams, 42, of the Bronx exited the store and encountered Dankin.  The two men engaged in a shootout with neither one suffering injuries.  Both shooters fled on foot.

The original victim was transported to Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx where he was treated for bullet wounds to the leg and abdomen.  He was triaged and transported to Jacobi Hospital’s trauma center.

The investigation led to Dankin’s arrest on July 20.  He was arraigned on felony charges of attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon.  Dankin has a criminal history that includes weapons and drug charges.  He was remanded to Westchester County Jail.

The original shooter, Williams, was arrested on unrelated weapons charges in New York City on July 5.  He is currently in the custody of the NYC Department of Corrections and is scheduled to be arraigned on felony weapons and assault charges next week in Mount Vernon City Court.
