NEWBURGH – As State Attorney General Letitia James’ Office was conducting a gun buyback program in Newburgh on Thursday, she came to the city to meet with officials, walk the streets and commit to assisting Newburgh put a lid on gun violence.

While that program has been successful in ridding the streets of New York of thousands of guns, James acknowledged it does not solve the problem of illegal guns being brought into the state and used to commit crimes.

“It’s not just doing gun buybacks. It is going after gun distributors, gun manufacturers, and the gun stores who sell guns illegally to individuals. So, we are focused on that. We have a number of investigations,” she said.

Mayor Torrance Harvey and other officials walked the streets with James. He said the city is thrilled to have her support in the continuing efforts to fight crime and gun violence in Newburgh.
