Handgun seized by Town of Poughkeepsie PD.

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – A 21-year-old City of Poughkeepsie resident is facing felony weapons charges after being arrested by Town of Poughkeepsie police on July 4.  The accused was pulled over on South Road at 11:57 p.m. on Independence Day during a countywide DWI crackdown during the holiday weekend.

During the stop, officers determined that the operator, Erik Steadman, was illegally in possession of a loaded firearm with a defaced serial number and a large-capacity magazine.
Steadman was taken into custody and charged with three felony counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon.  He was arraigned and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail, $20,000 bail bond, or $100,000 unsecured bail bond.
This is the fourth illegal handgun that the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department has been taken off the streets this year, according to the department.
