NEWBURGH – For the third consecutive year, State Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall) has secured funding for the Newburgh LGBTQ+ Center in the state budget.

He made the announcement at his Newburgh office on Thursday saying he was able to have $96,000 allocated for operational and programmatic purposes.

“The Newburgh center is really an essential organization for so many people in and around Newburgh. Some kids don’t have friendly faces or a service to turn to,” he said.

In total, Skoufis has secured $296,000 for the Newburgh center.

He also presented two Empire Business Awards to Newburgh Community Photo Project and Binnacle Books as well as two Senate Commendation Awards to writer, activist, and educator Kk Namool and poet Phoenix Gayle, a black trans woman who has organized to increase awareness regarding gun violence in the City of Newburgh.
