Rockland County guns purchased in buyback program

NEW CITY – The State Attorney General’s gun buyback program held on
Wednesday in conjunction with the State Attorney General’s Office resulted in 147 firearms being turned in at the Clarkstown Police Department.

The AG’s office has been collecting weapons with no questions asked.

The unloaded guns, working or nonworking, are exchanged for gift cards of various denominations depending on the type of weapon.

Statewide, Attorney General Letitia James’ office has taken close to 1,300 firearms out of communities statewide since she took office in 2019.

Clarkstown Chief Jeffrey Wanamaker said his buyback resulted in 57 handguns, 63 rifles and shotguns, four assault rifles, and 23 non-working or antique guns.
