TOWN OF ULSTER – The body of the nine-year-old girl who was swimming in the Hudson River with family members late Monday afternoon, was recovered at mid-morning on Tuesday, Town of Ulster Police said.

Chief Kyle Berardi said the Kingston child had been swimming with relatives off Sojourner Truth Ulster Landing Park when she was swept under the water and had not re-surfaced.

Her body was recovered in the general area where she was reported missing. Her name is not being released out of respect for the family.

Immediately after the child was reported missing, marine units, dive teams and aviation searched for her into the night until it was called off due to darkness.

The search was resumed at 7 on Tuesday morning and at 9:42, the girl’s body was recovered.
