Communicated Content- One of the longest and most well-known properties of cannabidiol (CBD) is that it is able to relieve pain. This applies to both acute pain caused by injuries, and surgeries, as well as chronic pain caused by conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia, and more.

However, the extent and degree to which CBD is able to relieve pain are not fully known yet. More in-depth research and medical trials are needed, and some are underway. However, there has been enough current research already published that has given some insight into potential answers to those questions. If you want a quick guide to CBD oil and how it helps with pain, read on to learn more.

#1) It Reduces Inflammation

The first and most potent way that CBD helps relieve pain is by reducing inflammation. When you are injured or have chronic conditions, inflammation is one of the main causes beyond the normal pain response itself. When you have inflammation, your skin stretches, your joints have more pressure, and it causes your nerve endings at the location of the pain to have more pressure against them.

This increases your pain as a result, which is why the initial response to treat a sudden injury is to find ways to reduce inflammation. This includes elevating the injured limb, applying ice, and other anti-inflammatory techniques.

CBD is one of the best natural supplements at reducing inflammation. This can help with both acute injuries as well as chronic conditions that have inflammation as a side effect or a cause for a flare-up of the condition.

#2) It Dulls Pain Response

The other way that CBD is able to help relieve pain is by dulling the pain signals your body sends through your nervous system. It does this by interacting with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) that runs through your nervous system. What your ECS is partially responsible for is the production of neurotransmitters that send signals through your body to help with certain bodily functions. One of those functions is the sending of pain signals.

When CBD interacts with the receptors in your ECS, it helps dull the pain signals that are sent from the neurotransmitters whenever you are experiencing pain. When you take CBD, it helps dull the response you feel from some kinds of pain.

#3) It Shifts Channels of Pain

New research from a study performed by Syracuse University recently uncovered a new way that CBD can help deal with pain. It gave either a CBD isolate oil drug or a placebo to human test subjects, and applied a device that delivered degrees of heat. This helped them safely cause pain, and they could then track the pain response.

What they found was that the CBD isolate oil did not lessen the intensity of pain, so much as it shifted the channels of pain experienced so it was less pleasant. The difference between CBD isolate and regular full or broad spectrum CBD is interesting in light of this study, because with the addition of other cannabinoids it has what’s called the entourage effect which helps boost the potency of each compound compared to taking them on their own.

In the end, more in-depth research is required to fully understand how CBD affects how we feel pain. The smaller scale studies have shown that CBD has some ability to reduce pain, and there has been some indication that it achieves this through a mix of the above three points. However, between the different kinds of CBD, different doses, and different reasons or causes of pain, there is still a lot to be learned.
