NEW WINDSOR – A 58-year-old New Windsor man was killed late Friday night when his 2019 Subaru crossed over the double yellow line and into the path of an oncoming semi-trailer gasoline tanker truck full of fuel.

New Windsor Police said Robert Stack, who was alone in his car driving on Temple Hill Road just before 10:40 p.m. when he crossed lanes, was pronounced dead at the scene just south of the entrance to Continental Manor Condominiums.

The driver of the tanker, Matthew Williams, 27, of Berlin, New York, was extricated from the truck cab by Vails Gate Fire Department personnel. He was transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh by New Windsor Emergency Medical Services ambulance where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He was along in the truck.

There was no leak from the tanker as a result of the accident, the cause of which remains under investigation.

New Windsor Police detectives ask anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call them 845-565-7000.
