Three arrested in Middletown for gun possession

MIDDLETOWN – A Middletown man and two juveniles were arrested in the City of Middletown on Thursday night, March 18, charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

Sol Maysonet, 21, was remanded to the Orange County Jail to await arraignment and the two youths will be arraigned virtually at the youth part of Orange County Criminal Court.

At around 10:15 p.m. on Thursday, state troopers observed a 2014 BMW 528i violating vehicle and traffic law on Prospect Avenue in Middletown. Troopers stopped the vehicle on East Main Street and Grand Street and interviewed the driver, identified as Maysonet.

While peaking to the occupants, troopers smelled marijuana coming from inside the car. Maysonet was asked to get out of the vehicle, but he refused.

Two Middletown city officers arrived and Maysonet put the car in drive and fled.

Officers pursued the car to Prince Street where it stopped.

During the pursuit, police observed an object thrown from the car. It was later located and identified as a loaded .22 cal. pistol.

Maysonet was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, and tampering with physical evidence, all as felonies, a misdemeanor of obstructing governmental administration and a violation of unlawful possession of marijuana.

The two juveniles were charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, and tampering with physical evidence.
