POUGHKEEPSIE – “Tonight is not about politics; it is about good government,” Dutchess County Democratic Committee Chairwoman Elisa Sumner said Monday evening as she launched the official start of County Comptroller Robin Lois’ bid for a second four-year term.
In a Zoom news conference, State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said Lois has brought accountability and transparency to the office.
“The comptroller’s office is particularly the office that is above politics; it needs to be, because if you are not an independent voice, then you won’t have the kind of integrity and credibility to do that oversight job that you do,” he said.
Lois, meanwhile, said she is working to provide complete accountability for every taxpayer dollar.
“I think there are some things in politics that are broken and should really be about integrity and professionalism and working hard for the people that elected you,” she said.
No Republican challenger has yet announced for the comptroller’s post.
