TOWN OF NEWBURGH – The video gaming operation initially planned for the Harriman area will be moving north and will be located at the former Bon-Ton department store space at the Newburgh Mall on Union Avenue in the Town of Newburgh.

State Senator James Skoufis has been heavily involved in the negotiations with Resorts World Catskills, which will operate the electronic gaming operation as a supplement to its Kiamesha Lake Las Vegas style casino.

Skoufis said before the facility can be opened, it must go through all of the appropriate local approvals.

He said aside from the construction jobs, there will be hundreds of permanent jobs for local residents including those living in the adjacent City of Newburgh, which has a high unemployment rate.

The gaming operation will also mean a boon to the taxes the town will earn.

Skoufis said it will also breathe new life into the mall, which has had a less than stellar history and he expects the gaming to attract high-end dining venues and other business opportunities at the mall.
