TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – The Fairview Fire District has been awarded a grant from the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA to assist in the purchasing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to battle COVID-19.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program – COVID-19 Supplemental Round 2 grant will give the district $11,703.00. The grant is a modified supplemental funding opportunity under the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. AFG is one of three grant programs that focus on enhancing the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards. The grant does this by providing financial assistance directly to eligible volunteer and combination fire departments for critical PPE and supplies needed to prevent, prepare for and respond to the COVID-19 public health emergency.

“The Fairview Fire District applied for and was awarded the AFG COVID-19 Supplemental Round 2  Grant for necessary purchases for our employees related to the COVID Pandemic,” said Fairview Fire Captain Justin Bohlmann.  The captain noted that the equipment purchased is for the protection of both the first responders and the community.

The funding will pay for the purchase of N95 masks, surgical masks, gloves, protective gowns, face shields,  goggles, and disinfectant chemicals.

“The Fairview Fire District takes great pride in ensuring that our membership and the community at large is as protected as they can be before, during, and after an emergency.  This funding will help to ensure that we remain prepared. We appreciate and thank our federal partners and elected officials for advocating for our community,” added Bohlmann.

The Arlington Fire District, representing another portion of the Town of Poughkeepsie recently received $52,000 of FEMA funding under the same program.
