COVID claimed life of beloved Wallkill town cop

TOWN OF WALLKILL – Police Sergeant Barry Weissman, who died at age 70 last Saturday, succumbed to the coronavirus, the Wallkill Town Police Department announced on Tuesday.

Weissman began his career as a part-time officer on February 4, 1982. He later became a full-time cop on December 24, 1997.

He was promoted to sergeant on June 29, 2012.

Weissman retired from the force on June 29, 2016, but that didn’t last long as he returned as a part-time sergeant on October 7, 2016.

All services will be held at the Transformation Church, 160 Blumel Road in Wallkill. On Thursday, January 28, the viewing will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Friday, January 29, the service will be held at 10 a.m.
