Poughkeepsie native executed for ordering murders of three women

TERRE HAUTE, INDIANA – Dustin Higgs, a Poughkeepsie native who was convicted of ordering the murders of three women in January 1996, was executed at the U.S. Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana early Saturday.

Higgs, 48, was put to death by lethal injection.

He was found guilty in a federal trial as the ringleader in the killings. He stayed in a vehicle and ordered another man, Willis Mark Haynes, to shoot them. Haynes was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole plus 45 years.

The women, Tamika Black, 19. Tanji Jackson, 21, and Mishann Chinn, 23, were murdered near the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
