Westchester communities have highest and lowest unemployment rates in region

ALBANY – The City of Mount Vernon had the highest unemployment rate in the Hudson Valley in November, the State Labor Department reported.

The Town of Mamaroneck, meanwhile, had the lowest rate.

Regionwide, the rate of joblessness was 5.4 percent.

The Town of Monroe had the second highest rate at 9.0 percent, followed by the City of Newburgh at 8.6 percent, the City of Poughkeepsie at 8.2 percent, and the City of Yonkers at 8.0 percent.

Following Mamaroneck’s lowest unemployment rate were the Village of Harrison, and towns of Mount Pleasant and Rye, all with 4.5 percent joblessness.
