KINGSTON – The rate of new positive COVID-19 cases is accelerating at an alarming rate, Ulster County Executive Patrick Ryan said Tuesday.

Those numbers have gotten significantly worse in a little over two weeks, he said.

“Looking back two weeks ago on December 1, that is the day that we actually crossed the threshold of 1,000-plus active cases… we surpassed the highest number we had in the first wave. In the two weeks since, we have almost doubled the number of active cases and are now just shy of 2,000 cases,” he said.

That number stands at 1,905 with 112 county residents having died from COVID-19.
