TOWN OF CHESTER – A Chester Town Police officer and another driver sustained minor injuries Friday morning when the civilian apparently fell asleep on the way home from an overnight shift and sideswiped the police car.

Police said shortly after 7:30 a.m., a patrol car was on Kings Highway near Knapps View Park.

Both the officer and the other driver suffered only minor injuries. The officer was taken to Garnet Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill in another patrol car and the other driver was transported from the scene by a family member and will be seeking medical evaluation later today.

The crash is being investigated by the State Police.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the other driver fell asleep on his way home from working an overnight shift and sideswiped the oncoming patrol car before crashing into a utility pole.
